Summer League Returns!

The second half of the Summer League season begins tonight (Monday 20 Feb) at Sandown Park and the Uni Rugby field.  Skills are improving, strategies are falling into place, and teams are starting to look around to see where they place in the league tables. As always, pickups are welcome (for the nominal pickup fee of $5 per night), and it’s not too late to register for the league ($50, which gets you into the finals rounds plus the BBQ).

All the info you need is at http://www.tasultimate.com/leagues/summer-social-league-2012

Remember to show up early for warm-ups and announcements!

Pick Up Game for the Public Holiday

Because of the public holiday on Monday 13 February, there will be no summer league games.  Games resume at their regular time next week on 20 Feb (see the league page for details!).

In lieu of league games, you can get your ultimate fix with a casual game of pick up at 6:00 pm at Sandown Park.  Come have a throw, and if enough people show up we’ll break out the cones and run an informal game.  It’ll be a good time to practice your skills and socialise.  Bring a light and a dark shirt in case something as organised as “teams” happen.

Ultimate in the Rain!

Just a reminder that ultimate is *on*, regardless of rain and wind (or snow, for those who may want to play in North America or Europe… or Antarctica).  Occasionally the grounds may be closed by the City Council when rain saturates the fields, but that is not the case tonight, so it’s a great time to lay out, focus on catching with both hands, and practice the zone defense.

If there are reports of lightning in the area, then for safety reasons we will cancel, and I’ll try to email everyone as soon as we know to avoid people making unnecessary trips.

Summer League well underway

The 2012 Summer League is well and truly underway now, with the third week of games scheduled for 30th January at Sandown Park (and the Uni Rugby Field).  With twelve teams across two divisions, there’s action for every skill level.  The full schedule and results are listed on the League page, with some additional info coming to you via email updates.  Keep the spirit and the discs flying high, and we’ll see you on the field!

Come ‘n’ Try is tonight, Early Bird registration closes at midnight

Just a reminder to everyone about two important things happening today.

Come ‘n’ Try
The action starts at 6:00 pm at Sandown Park in Lower Sandy Bay, and all are encouraged to attend. It’s a great way for beginners to experience the sport, and experienced players may want to come practice their teaching skills and recruit promising new talent for their teams.

Early Bird discount for Summer League
The final deadline for discount early-bird registration ends at midnight tonight, so if you haven’t registered AND PAID before then, you’ll be stuck with the regular price of $50 (an increase of $15 over the early-bird discount). If you know any potential players who have never played organised ultimate before, remind them that if they sign up they’re eligible to receive a free disc (to be handed out probably during the 2nd week of games, not tonight).

Full details and a registration form are available on the Summer Social League 2012 page »
