Autumn Indoor Social League – Registrations now open!

Autumn Indoor League will commence in late April, running through until the first week of July. Autumn League provides a great opportunity to keep your fitness levels up in the colder months. Indoor leagues are also a great training ground due to the favourable conditions (no wind!). Beginners can really find their feet and learn how to complete good throws in an indoor setting. More details will be made available closer to the time.

All games will be held at Aurora Stadium and the league will commence with a free Come & Try Introductory session at 4:00pm on the 22nd of April. Games will start on the 29th of April. Full details and registration are available on the Autumn Indoor Social League 2012 page.

More information on the Come-and-Try session is coming soon.

Good luck to Quoll

A quick message to say “Good Luck” to our Quoll boys who are heading over to Division 2 Nationals (http://ausdiv2nats NULL.com/) this weekend. Although Tasmania was not able to get a team to Primary Nationals in either the open or the women’s divisions (It’s a long way to travel twice), it’s great to have a Tasmanian team representing us on the mainland somewhere, somehow. Steve Wright and Jase de Puit have done a lot of work in coordinating and preparing the team and we wish them the best of luck. Hope you have a strong, enjoyable and spirited tournament.

New Committee after AGM

Hi Everyone,
The AGM of the Tasmanian Ultimate Association was held last night and there were a few changes to the shape of the committee.
First of all, we had five people step down from the committee. These people have all put in many years volunteering on the committee and have now chosen to focus their energies in a different direction. I’d really like to thank them for everything that they’ve done over the last few years.

Jason de Puit (VP)
Alysia Prevost
Nick Moles
Huddy Fuller
Steve Wright

However, the winds of change always blow fresh and we’ve got two people volunteering their ideas and opinions on our new committee for 2012, so I’d like to welcome Matthew Berne and Dale Baldwin to the table. I look forward to working with everyone on making our community the best it can be.

Finally, I’d like to congratulate Peter Marendy on his election to vice-president. I am confident Peter will be an excellent vice-president and will serve your needs well.

For more information about the committee, who we are and what we do, check out the TUA Committee page.

Summer Social League Finals & BBQ!

Monday night 26th March the TUA will be running the Grand Finals of its 2012 Summer Social League, with contests in 2 divisions and a BBQ and short awards ceremony to follow.  Both events will take place at Sandown Park in Lower Sandy Bay.  All current and past ultimate players in Tasmania are invited to cheer on (heckle) your fellow disc-chasers in what I reckon is the only summer league in the nation that can hold its finals beneath a snow-capped mountain.

All teams get a game!  If your team hasn’t qualified for the grand final, there’s still the 3rd place and 5th place games to enjoy as a way to cap off a great league and work on the skills you’ll want to transfer over to the Autumn Indoor League when it starts next month. The complete schedule of games is available on the league page at www.tasultimate.com/leagues/summer-social-league-2012/

In the beginner division, Jive (orange) will face Callan Don’t Do It (black) in the grand final on the river field.  The intermediate division grand final sees spirited young teams Wobblies (white) and the Mighty Hucks (blue) contest for the championship.

We’ll provide grilled meats and veggies, and league prizes, at the BBQ.  Please bring your own side dishes (chips, salads, desserts, whatever) and drinks!  Coordinate with your teammates so you won’t go hungry (or end up with 12 green salads and no drinks).  Beginner division games end at 6:50, and the BBQ should be starting about that time so players can stay to eat and heckle the intermediate division.

Summer League Finals update

The round robin phase of the summer social league has wrapped up and the final league tables have been updated.  That can only mean that it’s finals time!  The semifinal rounds will play on 26th March at Sandown Park (unfortunately we don’t have the Uni Rugby Field available for the finals, so all games will be at the one location– bad for play under lights, but good for people wanting to heckle the grand finals and attend the BBQ and awards afterward).

In the beginner division, the battles for 2nd-3rd place and 5th-6th were decided based on tie-breakers in a very close and balanced league.  In the intermediate division the Tadpoles ran away and hid in the top spot, but 4 of the remaining 5 spots were decided by tie-breakers, anticipating what is sure to be a close-fought semifinal round!

The complete league tables and the matchups for both beginner and intermediate division semifinals are listed on the league page- watch your email for any late-breaking updates about the status of the intermediate divisions fields.
