Pickup games are informal games where you turn up and ad-hoc teams are formed on the day. Just turn up with comfortable clothes, a water bottle and appropriate footwear if possible.
The most regular pickup games are organised by the University of Tasmania (UTAS) Ultimate Club in Hobart and Launceston.
UTAS Pickup Games (Hobart)
Pickup games are generally held Tuesdays and Fridays on the University of Tasmania’s University Oval (Sandy Bay Campus) at lunchtime (1-2pm), though somewhat less regularly during the University holidays. Word is that these fields are arguably the best fields used for pickup anywhere in Australia; the view of Mt. Wellington is spectacular and the grass is top-notch.
UTAS Pickup Games (Launceston)
Pickup games are currently held on Saturday afternoons (from 4pm) at Coronation Park, South Launceston.
Sunday Afternoon Pickup Games
Pickup games are sporadically held on Sunday afternoons, often at the University of Tasmania’s Rugby Field (Sandy Bay Campus). These games tend to be higher-standard games and are generally associated with training for teams travelling to play at interstate tournaments. Look out for messages on the tas-nats email list if you want to know when games are being held.
