Phillip Redneck Ruddock Throw Them Overboard Golf Classic
In 2003, the St David’s Park course was first used for the Friday night golf at the start of the Two-Hat. In 2004 and 2005, instead of playing the 9 holes in St David’s Park twice, the classic consisted of 9 holes in St David’s Park followed by 9 holes in Princes Park. In 2006, the classic reverted to playing the 9 holes in St David’s Park twice again, a slightly more difficult course that Princes Park.

Details and Photos
Two-Hat I
The inaugural Two-Hat was a half day tournament held on Sunday October 10 1999, with 34 players and 4 teams. This half day tournament had a round robin format and was won by the maroon team, beating the green team in the last game and winning on points difference after a 3 way tie at the top of the table. This tournament was notable for persistent drizzle which lasted from just before the first pull until the end of the tourney. The logo and newspaper clippings can be found at clippings and a brief TD’s report for Two-Hat I is now available.
Two-Hat II
Two-Hat II, played on Saturday October 7, was a full day tournament with 39 players, and again 4 teams with a full round robin used to determine places for semi-finals and a final. After the round robin, two teams had a 2-1 win loss record and the other two teams had a 1-2 win loss record. The final saw the orange team go down to purple, reversing the result from the round robin. Some spiffy digital photos can be found at photos.
Two-Hat III
Two-Hat III, played on Saturday October 13, was a full day tournament with 35 players, and again 4 teams with a full round robin used to determine places for semi-finals and a final. After the round robin, two teams had a 2-1 win loss record and the other two teams had a 1-2 win loss record. In 2001, spirit scores were used to separate teams tied on points at the conclusion of the round robin.
Sometimes it pays to start slowly – Blue Oyster lost their first two matches, then they turned it around, knocking off the previously undefeated Alvin in the last game of the round robin, then beating Blood Pudding in their semifinal and sweeping the pool by defeating Citric Acid in the final and winning the spirit prize (unfortunately the spirit prize was temporarily forgotten and it has since been drunk – whoops). Blue Oyster‘s Naomi also took the Play of the Day award, for a spectacular layout goal in the final. Jonno deserves a special mention for a reputedly spectacular layout catch in one of the early games. Do that in the final next year Jonno and you may stand a chance in the Play of the Day award! The Two-Hat III logo is available as well as a link to some photos.
Two-Hat IV
Two-Hat IV, played on Saturday October 12, was a full day tournament with 44 players, and again 4 teams with a full round robin used to determine places for semi-finals and a final. As in Two-Hats II and III after the round robin, two teams had a 2-1 win loss record and the other two teams had a 1-2 win loss record. As in Two-Hat II, the top team after the round robin, Butch, ended up playing the only team to have defeated them previously, Orange Organix, and ended up crashing out in the semi final 7-6. In the other semi Cookie’s Yellow Monsters stormed through against Flying Plastic Zombies, winning 9-6 and reversing the result form the round robin. The Yellow Monsters continued to take out the final 5-4 against Orange Organix. Butch won the spirit prize and Brendan took out the Play of the Day award with a spectacular layout catch. The Two-Hat IV logo is available as well as a link to photos taken by Ian and Asher. Naomi’s photos may appear one day!
A full TD’s report for Two-Hat IV is now available, including some images (but less than 400KB).
Two-Hat V
Two-Hat V, played on Saturday October 18, was a full day tournament with 38 players, and again 4 teams with a full round robin used to determine places for semi-finals and a final. Unlike previous Two-Hats, one team, Go Fish, was undefeated in the minor rounds. Go Fish took out one semifinal 10-4, against What He Said. In the other semifinal, Freshly Picked reversed the round robin result, beating Team Submarine 9-7. After a slow start, Go Fish eventually took the lead in the final against a resurgent Freshly Picked, and held on to win the game 8-7. What He Said won the spirit prize and Robin Fleming took out the Play of the Day award with a pair of spectacular layout Ds.
A full TD’s report for Two-Hat V is now available, including some images and the Two-Hat V logo (the whole page is a little over 1MB). The Two-Hat V logo is available as well as a link to some photos.
Two-Hat VI
Two-Hat VI, played on Saturday October 9, was a full day tournament with 48 players, and a record breaking 5 teams with a full round robin used to determine places for semi-finals and a final. As in Two-Hat V, one team, Little Johnny’s Satanic Minions, remained undefeated in the minor rounds and the finals. In fact the results in all finals followed the earlier minor round results. Hangover Blues took out the second vs third semifinal 9-8, against The Sigourney, with an identical score to their minor round game. In the other semifinal, Little Johnny’s Satanic Minions beat a resurgent Flying Purple People Eaters 2 11-7, after being 1-3 down early in the game. In the final, Little Johnny’s Satanic Minions had a flying start, racing out to a 5-0 lead, before Hangover Blues got into the game. Points were more or less traded from there with Little Johnny’s Satanic Minions eventually running out winners 12-7. The Brown Barbaloots won the spirit prize and Felix Kennedy took out the Play of the Day award with a spectacular layout catch for the final goal of the day.
A full TD’s report for Two-Hat VI is now available, including lots of photos (the whole page is around 2.7MB). More photos and graphics can be found via the Two-Hat VI images page, which includes the brand new TUA disc design.
Two-Hat VII
Two-Hat VII, played on Saturday October 8, was a full day tournament with 47 players, and 5 teams with a full round robin used to determine places for semi-finals and a final. As in Two-Hat V and VI, one team, Clockwork, remained undefeated in the minor rounds and the finals. The Arses of Fire took out the second vs third semifinal 8-7, against the Horrie Gorringe Allstars, reversing the result in their minor round game. In the other semifinal, Clockwork beat a wilting Keen as Mustard 10-2. In the final, Clockwork were never in trouble, beating the Arses of Fire 9-2. Clockwork also followed Blue Oyster‘s lead from Two-Hat III by winning the spirit prize as well, although spirit points were required in the semi final to separate Clockwork and Keen as Mustard, who were tied on spirit after the minor rounds and Pat Dunne and Mike Baker shared the Play of the Day award with a series of hotly contested discs in the final.

Two-Hat VIII
Two-Hat VIII, played on Saturday October 14, was a full day tournament with a record equalling 48 players, and 5 teams with a full round robin used to determine places for semi-finals and a final. Unlike the three previous Two-Hats, all teams had at least one loss and at least one victory in the minor rounds of Two-Hat VIII. Trevor took out a very tough second vs third semifinal 7-6, against Aquasnot. To reach the other semifinal, Suberba just managed to sneak into 4th place, after losing their first three games of the tournament, by beating Once you go black you can’t go back by a single point in the last minor round game of the day. Once you go black you can’t go back already had one win (over the top placed team, The Flying Dutchmen) so spirit scores were required as the tie breaker between these two teams at the bottom of the table. Having qualified for the semi-final, Suberba started strongly by taking an upwind point early, but in the end only managed to beat The Flying Dutchmen by a single point, 7-6. Superba won a couple of crucial tosses to start with the downwind point in both of these games. In the final, Superba were never in trouble, seemingly gaining strength from these hard fought victories, beating a tiring Trevor 11-5. Superba became the third Two-Hat team to win both the spirit prize and the tournament. Pat Dunne won the Play of the Day award outright this year.
A preliminary TD’s report for Two-Hat VIII is now available. Once the game scores are dug out and entered this report will be final!
Two-Hat IX
Congratulations to TD Matt Smith for organising the 9th Tasmanian Two-Hat Ultimate Frisbee Tournament with a record 7 teams. Murder … of Ravens and Cap’n Flamin’ Red Beard jointly took out the spirit prize. Ménage-a-dix Deux Chapeau overcame Flood of Ideas in the final to win the tournament with a score around 11-5. The Play of the Day award went to Dave Wilson for a spectacular defensive mac of the disc in the semi-final, preventing his player from getting the disc – unfortunately it was then caught by Joe, another player from the opposing team, for the score. Congratulations again to Dave Wilson (4 under) and Jens Meyer (3 under), respective winners of the skirt wearer and non-skirt wearer divisions in the Philip Redneck Ruddock Throw Them Overboard Disc Golf Classic on Friday evening. Congratulations also to Felix Kennedy, Kerryn Herman and Tim Phillips who were inducted to the Ten-Hat hall of Fame.
Two-Hat X
Congratulations to TD Matt Smith for organising the 10th Tasmanian Two-Hat Ultimate Frisbee Tournament – the first Two-Hat held over two days. Totally took a clear win in the spirit prize. After finishing 3rd in the minor rounds, Ten Minute Intrusion fought through the qualifying final (11-9 versus second placed No tomatoes – Totally secured the wooden spoon by losing the other qualifying final 8-12 against Leonard the Sea Monster) and semi-final (10-8 vs Leonard the Sea Monster – first placed Iron Swedish Maidens won the other semi-final against No tomatoes 10-9). The grand final saw Ten Minute Intrusion defeat Iron Swedish Maidens to win the tournament with the score 9-7. The Play of the Day award went to Pat Dunne, for the third time in four years! Congratulations again to Dave Wilson (7 under and a new 18 hole course record) and John Kristensen (+2), respective winners of the skirt wearer and non-skirt wearer divisions in the Philip Redneck Ruddock Throw Them Overboard Disc Golf Classic on Friday evening. Congratulations also to Dave Cooke, Jemery Day and Shavawn Donoghue who were inducted into the Twenty-Hat Hall of Fame and to Naomi Petrie, Brent (Chucky) Wall, Matt Petrie, Mike Baker, Stewart Wilde, Charlie Prevost, John Hempel, Matthew Smith and Sarah Robinson who were inducted to the Ten-Hat hall of Fame. Thanks to Matt Smith for running the show, but also to: Dave Cooke for the catering; Alysia Prevost for finances, sponsors, party organisation; Ash Martens and Mike Baker for the BBQ; Shavawn Donoghue, Joe Boyer and John Kristensen for the shirts and design; Joe for the the draw, teams and helping out all over the place; Tracy Coetzee for the prizes; Stew Wilde and Charlie Prevost for driving, towing & cooking BBQ; the Cleanup and Assembly Crews; the Cancer Council for sunscreen; Cadbury Schweppes for food and drink; all the people who fetched water; Jemery’s Free Ice™; and Pat Dunne for tables and Jellybeans.
Two-Hat XI
Two-Hat XI was held over two days on the 17-18th October 2009 at Wentworth Park fields. This was the same venue that hosted AMUC (Australian Mixed Ultimate Championships) the weekend before, so everyone felt right at home and the field lines were still visible. Lots of interstate people stayed around which boosted numbers and the quality of competition. 64 people formed into 6 teams with a round-robin on Saturday and early Sunday. The top two teams after pool rounds had a bye while 3 v 6 and 4 v 5 fought it out in ‘pre-semis’. Spots two and three were decided on spirit after both Movable Nest and For the Glory were tied on 4 wins and one loss apiece. For the Glory got revenge by beating Movable Nest in a tight semi, while Flamin’ Galahs won the other semi fairly comfortably. The Flamin’ Galahs took a hard-fought final over For the Glory 15-12 or so, while Movable Nest took out the spirit prize. The Play of the Day award went to Will Christopherson for missing his final game so that he could make his plane back to Adelaide, only to return sheepishly to the fields during the final after he found out his flight was on the Monday. Will was a truly deserving winner as when the cleaning up was done we also found Will’s backpack with laptop, mobile etc. which he’d left at the fields! Congratulations again to Dan Wilkins (2 under) and Ken Suber (-3), respective winners of the skirt wearer and non-skirt wearer divisions in the Philip Redneck Ruddock Throw Them Overboard Disc Golf Classic on Friday evening. Jeff Dunn was inducted into the 20-hat hall of fame, while three people (Alex de Vries, Jason de Puit, Pat Dunne) received 10-hat recognition. Many thanks go to all the people who helped organise the weekend; especially David Cooke for the exceptional catering, Shavawn and Jemery for getting the fields sorted, JK for the shirts and Mike Dunne and Alysia Prevost for staffing the canteen and collating scores while the TD was busy playing. Thanks to TD Dave Wilson for running this tourney!
Two-Hat XII
Two-Hat XII was held on the 9-10th October at Cornelian Bay fields. A great turn out of 60 players and some reasonable weather made for a fantastic 6 team tournament. Early on Saturday morning the shirt colours, design and teams were announced with the first games starting soon after. This first day and a half saw the finish of the round robin with some rather close games throughout the two days. The results after the round robin were from top to bottom Yolk, Snot Pink, Eggcitable, Purple Rain, Trouble with Mandarins, and Pass the Pig. The last half of Sunday saw the beginning of the finals with the first two games of the finals being very close and hard fought. In the game between Eggcitbale and Pass the Pig it was tied at time cap, which required them to finish the point to find out who progressed into the semis. This last point was watched by all teams, with lots of heckling and cheering from the sidelines. In the end it saw Eggcitable getting the last point to reach the semis against Yolk. The 5-6 playoff was played first with Trouble playing Pass the Pig in a game of elimination Ultimate. It looked like Trouble was going to win with several players still in the game but in the end Pass the Pig came out on top resulting in Trouble winning the Two Hat XII wooden spoon. Mean while in the semis, Eggcitable came out on top of the higher seeded Snot Pink in a very close game to make the finals against Yolk who defeated Purple Rain. With the BBQ smoking and Liz Blink and Nicholas Oldfield at the helm cooking up a storm the finals began between Eggcitable and Yolk. As the wind was picking up and and doing it’s swirly thing both teams struggled to get a long game going. Instead short passes and lots of cutting slowly saw the points stacking up. In the second half Yolk started to pull away and held on for the win. Congratulations to all teams for a great two days of games and Two-Hat merriment.
I would like to thank the Organising Committee of Alysia Prevost (Finances), Emma Pharo (lunches) and Emily Johnson (shirts, scores and party) for all their help in making this such a successful tournament. The four of us would like to thank Andrew Binny for all of his help over the two days; filling water jugs, keeping the game times, and generally helping out with everything! We would also like to thank Jemery Day, Dave Cooke, John Kristensen, Reed Burgette, Charlie Prevost, Rich Little, Matt Smith, Michael Dunne, Mark Verrall, Hazwan Khair, Nicholas Oldfield and Liz Blink for all the help they gave us in either dropping off and picking up various necessities, setting up tents and the fields, running the BBQ and all the other small things that help a tournament run smoothly and Ken Suber for running the golf.
The spirit prize was won by Pass the Pig (65 points), followed by Snot Pink (63), Purple Rain (63), Yolk and Eggcitable (55 each) and Trouble with Mandarins (54). Play of the day candidates included: Sonja for getting a great grab for a score and then celebrating with high spirits before the other team pointed out that she was still a few metres from the end zone; Nick Moles for the best pull of the tournament that went (depending on who you ask) only 10 metres from where he started; Felix Kennedy for some really great grabs on D and O, including a great endzone play where the disc was D’ed by Mike Baker and Felix still managed to catch by laying out in the endzone for a point; Patt Dunne for a great lay out D in the game against Yolk and several other games throughout the two days; and Andy Cole for a diving catch in the endzone after the disc bounced over three other players.
Thanks also to TD Shavawn Donoghue for running the tournament and for the final report.
Two-Hat XIII
Two-Hat returned to the lush green fields of Cornelian Bay for the third time. 53 players braved what turned out to be ‘variable’ weather conditions over the weekend. Player numbers were down from Two-Hat XII after a few players pulled up sore (broken) from the previous weekends Mixed Nationals.
The first round of matches on the Saturday were played in either sunshine or rain, which at times had players barley able to see the disc, let alone catch it. Earl showed dominance early on winning all three of their pool matches on day one. Black Plague were not far behind with two wins and draw.
Day two started off weather wise much the same, and also game-wise with Earl winning their last pool match to go through the round robin undefeated. Shiraz Confusion and Envy played a cracking first match of the day with Shiraz Confusion winning by a point for their first win of the tournament.
After the round robin the results were Earl, Black Plague, I Blue Myself, Shiraz Confusion and Envy. The Qualifying finals followed form with Black Plague beating Shiraz Confusion and I Blue Myself beating Envy. Envy were knocked out at this stage, and unfortunately not winning a game for the weekend. Earl re-entered the tournament at this semi final stage to take out Shiraz by two points. I Blue Myself won the other semi against Black Plague to take the last spot in the finals.
The crowd were wanting a close fought final, but unfortunately it turned into a blow out with Earl defeating I Blue Myself 11 to 4. However the final still had some great play with Tim Stoneman laying out to everything and Jarrah Day running around in the final like it was game one on day one. Spirit was taken out by Black Plague in what was a very close spirit table as always.
Two-Hat XIV
Two-Hat XIV, dedicated to the 2012 Mayan-predicted Apocalypse, was played on 13-14 October under decidedly non-apocalyptic conditions– the predicted light rains for Saturday confined themselves almost entirely to the lunch break, and Sunday was completely dry. On both days the usual Cornelian Bay swirling winds were enough to make throws interesting but not impossible, especially on the cross-wind field used for the grand final.
XIV was the largest Two-Hat ever, with 68 registrations and 6 teams- and a record 8 Launceston-based players thanks to the efforts of Huddy Fuller. A full slate of round robin games was played, with four games on Saturday and the fifth on Sunday morning bright and early at 9:30 am. As Saturday afternoon wore on and the sea breeze filled in, games tended to become more upwind-downwind, with some teams deploying a zone and others sticking with the basics.
Here is the full TD’s Report
Thanks to Dale Baldwin, Matthew Berne and Andrew Cole for TDing the tournament.
Two-Hat XV
Two-Hat XV was held in a bewildering array of weather conditions ranging from cold but sunny to cool rain to sleet, with the one constant being a wind that turned most of the games into exchanges of downwind points interrupted by ferocious zone defense. The tents, cones, and in some cases lunches were all disrupted to some degree by the forces of nature, but high spirits prevailed and serious injury was avoided.
The six teams all fought hard in their four round robin games on Saturday, and after the opening game on Sunday the Dapper Dills emerged undefeated, with Blue Smang Clan in 2nd, Sorry! and Pitch in a dead heat for 3rd on the ladder, and eventual spirit winners Fource and Sheep/Clouds bringing up the rear. The round robin ladder proved an accurate predictor of the final results, with the exception of Fource getting up over Sorry! and Pitch for 3rd place. The polished Dapper Dills took out the grand final over Blue Smang Clan in a ridiculous crosswind that saw the spectators huddled under the tents (pegged to vehicles) and a veritable rain of discs bombarding the road beside the field after huck attempts. In the end the energy of the Dills’ defense and their precision short throws made the difference and they ran away with a well-earned victory.
Two-Hat XVI
No official TD report was submitted this year, but it was a great competition. We had some of the best weather the Two-Hat has seen, with mild conditions throughout the whole tournament, and only a small sea-breeze on Saturday afternoon.
The round-robin over Saturday and Sunday morning was quite even, with every team recording a victory over someone. “We Need To Talk About It” were the favourites going into the finals, having won every one of their games, with Face-O finishing second and both teams getting a ticket to the semi finals. Buzzkill just pipped out Meh in the first qualifying final, and Winkies smashed PPE in the second. During the Semifinals Buzzkill and Face-O had an incredibly close fought game with Face-O just getting through, while Winkies were soundly beaten by We Need To Talk About It. It’s fair to say that “We Need To Talk About It” looked destined to win the tournament, having had quite an easy ride thanks to their first spot on the ladder. However, the veterans in Face-O rose to the challenge and the final was tightly fought. Face-O got an early lead, and took half 8-5. We Need To Talk About It came back strong, drew level to 9-9 before Face-O took control of the game with their strong handlers and high efficiency. Face-O won 13-10.
Spirit was won by PPE with a spirit score of 69, and there were two other teams finishing on 68. It was an incredibly well spirited tournament. Thanks to Chris Willis for running the tournament, even though he didn’t get to play any of it because he broke himself.

Two-Hat XVIII
Two-Hat 18 was played at Cornelian Bay on the 8th and 9th of October 2016. The tournament was directed by Joe Boyer. It was one of the closest Two-Hats in terms of both team-balance and spirit, with the top three spirit teams being nearly inseparable and with many incredibly close games throughout the tournament. The weather was sunny and clear on Saturday, and although a storm threatened on Sunday it held off long enough to ensure the tournament completed without incident. The tournament was won by “1999” in an incredibly close-fought grand final, beating “Knot Yet” 12-10. “Knot Yet” had the last laugh though, taking out the spirit award. Lots of beginners, lots of interstate players, a good gender balance, great weather and sublime fields made this an awesome Two-Hat tournament! Full report available here.
Two-Hat XIX
The Tasmanian Two-Hat XIX returned to its roots in 2017, becoming a one-day tournament for the first time in the last ten years. Although registration numbers were below expectations, and teams were forced to play savage all day, a wonderful time was had by all. The weather gods and the Frisbee gods smiled on us, as four teams battled it out for Two-Hat supremacy. In the end, the tournament was won by Mike Drop (yellow) with a resounding victory over Unco (orange) 15-6 , the biggest margin of the tournament. Spirit was also a close run race, being clinched by The Mexicans are coming (green) by one spirit point. The wooden spoon was claimed by Hello Sailor! (Blue) losing to The Mexicans Are Coming in the 3rd place playoff, despite beating them earlier in the day. A lovely day was had by all, and there were many sore muscles on the Monday! Thanks to TD Joe Boyer, who swears (once again) that this is his last time he’ll TD the tournament. Also thanks to the usual TUA volunteers, Arthur Edwards, Andy Cole and Peter Marendy for all their help. Full report available here.
Spirit Victories
Spirit prizes have only been awarded since Two-Hat III. Shavawn Donoghue has the outstanding record of being on the team which has won spirit 9 times out 19 (and captaining the spirit winning team twice).
