After the lighting-related delay in the Summer League finals schedule the league has now been completed. Congratulations to beginner division champions Hyperbolic, who defeated Rainbow Sheep 8-7 in a high-spirited match featuring lots of hammers and layouts aplenty. Nicholas Oldfield claimed the “style in the final” award for his full-lenth layout to score on a huck over his head (honorable mention to Saan Katelaar for her scoober to Callan), and Theresa Parton got “guts in the final” for mixing it up on defense with flair and no fear. In the 3-4 playoff, Tait’n8ers triumphed over spirit winners Not That Organised by the score of 7-4. Many thanks to the crowd who came to cheer on the players and conclude a successful league!
Rewinding a week to the intermediate division final, congratulations once again to league champions Kink-Out, who beat Zoom 14-10 on a balmy late summer evening. Grady Cowley took out the “guts in the final” award for his layout D (previewing his trip to Nationals with Quoll?), and Matt Petrie won style for his various layout catches on offense. Spirit champions Lift won by forfeit over Drop Table; in the wooden spoon game, but the teams played pickup anyway. And in the 3-4 playoff Wobblies defeated Ninjapizza by a tally of 11-8.
Congratulations are also in order to the players voted most improved by a poll of team captains: John Stephenson & Theresa Parton, who made great strides in their skills in beginner division, and Matt Lyons and Angela Mackenzie, who took their game to new levels in intermediate.
The TUA would also like to extend their thanks to Andy Cole, Nick Moles and Tim Johnson. Working as co-league organisers these three volunteers produced an excellent, fun and smooth running league that was enjoyed by many participants. Thanks for your hard work guys!
