Winter Social League – Finals run and won..

Winter Social League finished on Sunday with some great performances and a few surprises along the way. See below for a league wrap-up from the league organisers, Eliza Burke-Polden and Patrick Neasey.

The Winter Indoor League wrapped up with a bang last Sunday!

Beginner champions Make It Up backed up their top-of-the-table finish with an 18-10 win over UTas-based Blackout in the grand final. The team was commended for its depth, with league first-timers Foong Yi Chao and Rachel Ng playing starring roles in the victory.

Meanwhile, The Indoor Kites secured 3rd place with a 14-6 win over Shadow.

The Beginner division was very closely contested, right from day 1 when both games ended in draws. Many new faces emerged to enrich the ultimate scene in Hobart, with the league’s youngest player – Lilith Cole – picking up a Most Improved award!

The Intermediate division, true to Tasmanian traditions, was won by 4th-placed Bluke, who clinched the title 13-10 over 3rd-placed Pit Stop. After a string of narrow losses, Bluke used their height and youthful agility to their advantage to beat table-toppers UTas Black in their semi-final and Pit Stop in the decider. Pit Stop’s¬†Jessica Widdison deserves a special mention for being voted Most Improved Female by a huge margin!

UTas Black partially made up for their semi-final defeat by winning the 3rd place match against fellow UTas team Firestorms. While these two teams dominated the round-robin games to finish 1st and 2nd on the ladder, the semi-final results just go to show the unpredictability and excitement of indoor ultimate.

League organisers Patrick and Eliza would like to thank each and every player in the Winter Indoor League and hope to see all the newer players continue to develop their careers in the outdoor format this spring!

The full results of the league are available on the Winter Social League page. Congratulations to all who took part.

The TUA would like to thank Eliza and Pat for their efforts. As mentioned, Spring League is not too far away and we will announce the opening of registrations here as soon as possible!
