Spring League 2013 – Wrap Up

Monday night say the final games being played for Spring League 2013. There was some impressive ultimate on display, capping off another enjoyable league at Sandown. Here’s a wrap up from the League Organisers:

The 2013 Spring League was a small but competitive competition that saw a lot of great Ultimate played, and a lot of new people experiencing the sport for the first time.

The Beginner league was won by Destroyers – a predominantly Hobart College Ultimate team that defeated #Hashtag 8-4 in a highly spirited final enjoyed by all. Style in the final was won by Simon Burnett for an impressive reflexive grab right on the end zone line. Guts was won by Tom Stegink thanks to a variety of impressive layouts. Most improved also went to Destroyers – Timothy McEldowney and Emily Duncombe. Denying Destroyers a clean sweep of all awards was Leafy Greens, who took out the spirit prize for the league.

Intermediate was won fairly convincingly by Leo’s Legends, 12-7. They didn’t drop a game all league and although runners-up Courgette Corvette came close a few times in the final, in the end Leo’s Legends accelerated away to take the win. Isaac Tay took out the Style award in the final for his gracefulness both on the ground and in the air, and Jack Kean earned the Guts award for an amazing layout block to stop a certain score. Most improved for this league went to David Nahodil and Francesca Watts, with spirit going to Courgette Corvette.

Thanks goes to everyone who was involved in running this league, especially Joe Boyer for booking fields and lights and organising the league tables, Jase de Puit for keeping the website updated, and Arthur Edwards for fetching pizzas.

Congratulations to everyone who played in this league, and we hope to see you all again come Summer League!
